MORE EXCELLENT CONCERTS ADDED TO RED ROCKS SUMMER 2016!!

Though, I pride myself on constantly checking for additions to the summer 2016 concert season, somehow Red Rocks snuck a few impressive concerts by me over the last couple of days. The recent additions include, Rebelution, Lettuce, Steely Dan, Gramatik, Galactic and Boombox.

Reggae ambassadors, Rebelution will be bringing positive vibrations to Red Rocks on June 3. They will be joined by The Green, J Boog and Through The Roots.  The tickets are on sale and are $39.50.

The Northeast’s favorite funkateers, Lettuce will treat the famous amphitheatre to some eclectic sounds, along with openers, The Wailers performing ‘Exodus’, Manic Focus and hip-hop trailblazer Grandmaster Flash. This impressive show, will come to Red Rocks on June 10, with tickets already on sale for $39.50.

Among these younger acts, one veteran act, Steely Dan will be performing at Red Rocks on June 13. If that isn’t enough musical experience, just remember the incomparable Steve Winwood will be support for the show, which goes on sale this Saturday, February 27.

On June 17, Gramatik will take the stage at the historic venue. There is no support act listed, but the tickets are already on sale for $39.75.

To round out the list, there is an amazing double-bill on July 14, that includes New Orleans-based funk pioneers, Galactic and the highly danceable rocktronica sounds of Boombox. These two acts will receive support from the Pimps Of Joytime, with their own brand of world-soul-funk. The tickets for this show go on sale this Friday, February 26 and with a line-up like this, they probably won’t last long.

These are some fantastic shows coming to Red Rocks Amphitheatre this summer and I will try to stay on top of these, posting the information, as I get it. That Is What I Know, So That’s What You Know!! Enjoy!!

Beats Antique is not an act I’ve heard a lot from, but one I have heard a ton about over the last couple of years. They seem to bring up the organic end of the livetronic movement.

I haven’t seen or heard a lot of The Infamous Stringduster’s material, but have definitely noticed their popularity within the bluegrass community.

Joey Porter is the keyboardist for The Motet and Juno What?, and along with members of Lettuce and a few other friends it should be funky and fun.

I don’t know Devon Parker, but his thirtieth birthday party sounds like one that will never be forgotten with the line- up that is getting together to play for him.

I did a review on the latest release by St. Paul & The Broken Bones a few weeks ago and loved the old school soul thing they have cookin’. St. Paul & The Broken Bones “Half The City” video link

Pato Banton makes some of the most positive music I have ever heard. It is reggae, but a live show is more like what church should feel like. Pato Banton “Groovin” video link

It’s Cheech & Chong!! There’s not much to say about them as a comedy duo, that the whole world doesn’t already know. I am not clear as to whether there is any music involved, but that isn’t a big deal with these too. The cheapest ticket I found was $112. Ouch!!

One of the longest running Grateful Dead tribute bands, anywhere, Shakedown Street needs little description.

‘Festival 64: A Celebration Of Legalization’ looks like it should be a jamtronic fans dream with UV Hippo, Tiger Party w/ David Murphy and Signal Path as the headliners.

I recently reviewed the latest release by the Drive-By Truckers and it is more of the same captivating American stories that Patterson Hood has been telling for many years.

The powers that be have approved a “4/20 Fest” at Civic Center Park in Denver, even after the gunfire that occurred last year. Supposedly, there will be private security, which can prove positive or negative (remember Altamont?). Either way, there will be performances from Wyclef Jean and B.O.B.

As far as I can figure, Snoopadelic is just another one of Snoop Dogg’s personas. I can’t imagine that the name equates to him covering Pink Floyd and Grateful Dead, but since it is on 4/20, I’m sure the show will be appropriate for the holiday in the “legal state”.

“The Waldos Music Fest” @ the Fillmore Auditorium should provide some great celebratory music for 4/20. There will be performances by Matisyahu, Talib Kweli and more to be announced.

Franz Ferdinand is a little more alternative than anything, but their music is not easy to describe. I am sure their live performance is captivating.

I really don’t know that much about the Glitch Mob, except that there are plenty of people in the jam scene, that do like them.

Gogol Bordello makes gypsy music from the corners of the world. I haven’t seen them live but have heard that it is pretty amazing!!    Gogol Bordello “Wanderlust King” live video link

The Rock Collection is a who’s who of Bay Area Musicians with ties to the Grateful Dead.

Zoogma is another favorite among fans of jamtronica. I haven’t seen them yet, but have heard great things.

I saw the killer middle of nowhere blues rock duo Little Hurricane, a couple years ago and was blown away.                                                           Little Hurricane “Give ‘Em Hell” live video link

I can’t say I know much about the other members of The Ringers, but what I know about Jimmy Herring, makes up for it. Jimmy has played in Aquarium Rescue Unit, Jazz Is Dead, The Allman Brothers Band, Phil Lesh & Friends and is currently in Widespread Panic. Need I say more, but I will. Drew Emmitt Band is sharing the bill on a couple of dates and the pairing of the bluegrass swing of Drew and Jimmy’s jazz-jam roots should make for a memorable night.

Shelby Lynne is hard to describe, but it is probably safe to say that she is a little bit blues, a little bit soul, a little bit country, and a whole lotta sass. Shelby Lynne “Thought It Would Be Easier” live video link

The M&M’s are a group of incredible musicians who all share a last name that starts with the letter M. There is no telling what these guys will play, but I’m sure it’ll be good.

Nickel Creek is back with their first tour and album in several years. Their sound is distinct and it will be a nice addition to the festival scene this year.

Roosevelt Collier is the sacred steel player for the Lee Boys and he is getting together with some of Colorado’s funkiest for this throwdown.

The Black Crowe’s frontman, Chris Robinson, has a great group of musicians in his Brotherhood. I have listened to a fair amount of material and have seen them live once, and was very impressed.      Chris Robinson Brotherhood “Rosalee” live video link

Tim Bluhm’s The Mother Hips are back on the road and bringing their alternative jam-rock out of hibernation.                                                             The Mother Hips “Third Floor Story” live video link

Rickie Lee Jones has been around for more than a few years. She has a phenomenal voice and has been around the folk/jazz scenes for most of her career.

Victor Wooten plays bass with Bela Fleck & The Flecktones, and is considered by many to be one of the best bassists in the world.

Though there are only one or two original members these days, it is still the Beach Boys. The true sounds of summer.

Xavier Rudd is a very organic musician, who plays several instruments and well too. This Australian native plays a brand of world folk music.

The World Party, which is mostly Karl Wallinger and a rotating cast has been around for over 20 years. He makes some conscious well-penned songs that often tip their hats toward The Beatles. I haven’t seen him live, but am sure it is a stellar experience.                  World Party “Ship Of Fools” live video link

Jackie Green is an impressive musician that I have seen a couple times w/ Phil Lesh and Friends and have heard some solo material from. He is a pretty good songwriter and can play just about everything.

I haven’t heard that much of Andrew Bird’s music, but have been impressed with what I have. Chataqua is a great place to see a show.

What can I say about Steve Winwood, that can’t be summed-up in a look at his career between Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith, Traffic and his solo works. No shortage of fantabulous classics for him to pull from.                                                                                                                          Steve Winwood “Back In The High Life Again” live video link

KISS + Def Leppard are two classic rock and roll acts that many of us can remember from when we started to remember music.

Angelique Kidjo is a fabulous artist, who crosses musical boundaries. Her music will fill the auditorium nicely.

On the fourth of July, Dark Star Orchestra will play their best Grateful Dead at the Ogden Theatre.

Umphrey’s McGee at the Boulder Theatre is SOLD OUT!!!!

The New Orleans funky stylings of Big Sam’s Funky Nation will grace Rocky Mountain audiences in July.                                                                        Big Sam’s Funky Nation “Big Ole Booty” live video link

Supposedly the final tour with 80’s rockers, Motley Crue is coming. Between them and opener Alice Cooper, many of us 40 + 50 year olds remember theirs’ as the first hard rock we heard as kids.

One amazing blues act is something but to have Los Lonely Boys and Kenny Wayne Shepherd together, that is something else.

The heavy rockabilly of Reverend Horton Heat will find its way back to Northern Colorado in the latter part of August.

This is a lot of music to process. There is something for almost anybody, who wants to hear some live music. I can’t say I have seen or even heard all of these, but I trust the information I’ve gathered about them and the following some of them have. That’s What I Know, So That’s What You Know!!!!
