THE MUSIC WORLD LOSES GLENN FREY :-(

As most of you already know, the music world lost Glenn Frey, yesterday. The singer, songwriter, guitarist and actor is best known as one of the frontmen of The Eagles, along with Don Henley. Frey wrote or co-wrote many of The Eagles, as well as singing lead on “Take It Easy”, “Tequila Sunrise”, “Already Gone”, “Heartache Tonight” and more. Along with Frey, The Eagles won six Grammy Awards and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, the first year they were nominated. The Eagles disbanded in 1980 and reunited in 1994 for the “Hell Freezes Over” album and tour. The band toured together a few times after this initial reunion tour. He also had a successful solo career in the early 80’s, with hits like “Smuggler’s Blues”, “The Heat Is On” and more.

Frey grew up in Michigan, starting on the piano at age 5, but soon turning to the guitar. He played in some local bands, with the Mushrooms getting a break when they got Bob Seger to write their first single. At 19, Frey performed on Seger’s “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man” in 1968, with Seger encouraging him to focus on writing songs. Frey followed a girlfriend to California, which is where he met singer/songwriter, JD Souther, who would co-write some of The Eagles songs with Glenn. Frey and Souther lived above Jackson Browne, and Glenn learned how to diligently write songs from listening to Browne going through the process below. Glenn met Don Henley in 1970 and the two played back-up for Linda Ronstadt for a single and ended up as part of her touring band. After that gig, the band stayed together and became The Eagles, having huge success over the next decade. Besides a solo music career, Frey also acted on shows like Miami Vice and Nash Bridges in the 80’s and 90’s.

Frey had been battling rheumatoid arthritis and ulcerative colitis, and had undergone intestinal surgery in November. Recently, he had gotten pneumonia and his health had taken a turn for the worse over the last few days. Frey passed away yesterday, in New York, at age 67.
